About
Central Coast Friday Night Lights Flag Football offers youth flag football games and football training. The program uses a 6 v 6 format with a maximum of 9 players per team, and players rotate through skill positions such as quarterback, wide receiver, running back, and defensive back. Everyone plays in 3 out of 4 quarters, and there is only one practice per week.
• Ages: 5–13 years old
• Schedule: Season runs August–December, with 7–8 games plus playoffs, games on Fridays with possible mid-week games if necessary, and any rainouts made up on Sunday afternoons
• Price: $305/player (includes jersey and shorts; no team sponsor fees)
Central Coast Friday Night Lights Flag Football offers separate boys and girls divisions for all levels from Kinder through 8th grade, and girls flag football is approved as an official CIF high school sport for the fall season. Families can form their own team or have the league form a team for them. The program uses professional paid game officials, provides trophies, and includes a special uniform patch that families can follow to win prizes, as well as the option to buy fan gear via Fanatics. The player fee includes a jersey and shorts, and there are no team sponsor fees. The program has a refund policy that requires written requests by Oct. 15th for the Spring Season and June 15th for the Fall Season, after which refunds are not issued, and schedule changes due to rain are posted by 2pm on game day with the instruction to always assume games will be played. The website is powered by SportsEngine's Sports Relationship Management software and is subject to the Friday Night Lights - San Luis Obispo privacy policy.
Football training is led by Joe Protheroe, the all-time leading Cal Poly running back, and the leadership team includes Commissioner Mark Broersma and Joe Protheroe. The league is described as the “#1 youth flag football league in California,” the “Fastest growing youth sports league on the Central Coast,” and the “Best youth sports experience you will ever have.” Central Coast Friday Night Lights Flag Football is part of a broader FNL network that includes 22 flag football leagues in locations such as Los Alamitos/Seal Beach/Long Beach, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Murrieta, Temecula, Newport Beach/Costa Mesa, North County Coast (Carlsbad/Oceanside), Desert Sands (Palm Desert/La Quinta/Indio), Irvine/Tustin, South Orange County (Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Hills), Corona (Norco, Eastvale, Jurupa Valley), North San Diego (Rancho Bernardo, Poway), Carmel Valley (Solana Beach, Del Mar, La Jolla, Penesquitos), Santa Barbara, Edmond/Oklahoma City, Choctaw (OK), Lake Forest, Cypress, Glendale, Antelope Valley, and Long Beach.
